Massage has been around for thousands of years – writings have been discovered describing its benefits from ancient civilisations such as Greek, Rome, Japan, China and Eygpt.
Swedish Massage is now the most well known western type of massage and was developed by a Swedish man by the name of Per Henrik Ling in the 19th century. He initially developed a system called “Medical Gymnastics” which included movements performed by a therapist. This then formed the basis for the massage sequence that is used today.
When you come for a massage you can either have a full body massage which incorporates the legs, feet, arms, hands, neck, shoulders and back or you can have a shorter version which can incorporate particular areas of the body that might need more attention – such as the back, neck and shoulders.
The massage can be slow and gentle or vigorous and bracing and you can specify what you would like before the massage. There are huge amounts of physical and mental well-being benefits from massage.
